MISS TEEN USA 2008 will spend her year speaking with her peers about the growing trend in gun violence, anger management and how to cope with peer pressure and drugs. She will work to affect change with organizations such as Sparrow Clubs, Best Buddies, and Do Something, and hopefully a generation will be listening.
Did you know...
- Seventy-seven percent of the violence in schools over the past eight years involved a handgun?
- Six million - that's one out of every four - teens have tried drugs within the past 30 days?
You don't need to be MISS TEEN USA to stop these numbers from escalating. Join in a mentoring program at your school or check with your local police precinct. Why not start your own anti-violence or anti-drug organization? Talk to your school's guidance counselor, do the research, talk it over with your friends. Help make a difference.
